❀ - The teenage hare growled at Jack’s question:

«Ah’ have eyes, y’know? Ah’ll look at whateva’ Ah’ want ta, wheneva’ Ah’ want ta! Hm!» She replied, trying to hide her discomfort.
But then, when Jack insisted on taking her to the Warren, she sighed, shaking her head in disappointment.

She knew Jack was stubborn just like her, and none of them would’ve given up that easily.

«Fine, icicle.» She said, sticking her tongue out with a smirk; she knew Jack didn’t like that nickname: «Let’s get one of the ol’ man tellin’ offs. Like Ah’ wasn’t wishin’ fer anythin’ betta’…»

She tapped her foot on the ground to open a tunnel - and it obviously opened in the wrong place - before grabbing the Winter spirit’s hand and slipping inside it.

That was going to be a long day.

One thing Jack was certain about - Ester had not only her father’s arrogance, but also his grouchiness. He’d asked a simple question, and overreaction was what he had gotten.

“Okay then, whatever,” he said with a shrug. “Icicle? I’m no icicle, baby, I’m an iceberg.” He smirked jokingly when a hole opened up on the ground between them. She jumped first, pulling him along.

He, of course, was yelling out of his head as they slid down the hole.

❀ - Ester looked up at Jack’s ice blue eyes at his statement, losing herself in them; she forgot the pain and the reason why she was angry, just staring blankly at the Winter spirit.

She always had a crush on him, since she was a little one, but she certainly wouldn’t have admitted it. Ever.

«…err… no. Not bleedin’.» She repeated, scratching behind her own ear with the other hand.
When seeing the boy handing out his own hand, she looked away, standing up by herself:

«Yeah, Ah’ guess Ah’ll get back ta da Warren mahself; y’know, at least da ol’ man won’t have da chance ta snap yer head off-» She managed to say, trying not to be awkward.

Jack noticed Ester looking at him, and he wasn’t quite sure if it was out of anger, or some other emotion. He furrowed his eyebrows, confused. “What?” he blurted out, still sat in front of her. “What’re you looking at?”

He shook his head, unconsciously shrugging of the situation. “So, anyway,” he said, looking down at the wound. It had stopped bleeding, but it still needed treatment.

“No, I won’t let you go alone, Ester,” he decided, standing up as soon as she did. He wasn’t about to bail on his friend, despite her telling him she wanted to face Bunny alone. “I told you. The guy owes me. And he won’t lay a hand, or a paw, on us.” He took his staff, and readied himself to head to the Warren.

❀ - The hare raised an eyebrow:

«Eh? Why’d he owe ya?» She asked, handing out her arm as the teenager was preparing to freeze her wound.
She fell silent, watching his actions: she always found them… interesting. And she also liked when the boy put his hands on her, even though she would never admit it.

«Yeah, maybe he won’t get his paw on ya, but Ah’ll have ta get ta get back ta the Warren soona’ or lata’…» She huffed, recalling the last time he actually got mad at her; she ended up in her burrow for the whole afternoon, and he wouldn’t let her out until she didn’t finish painting the whole bunch of eggs that kept entering her room through a tiny hole in the wall that prevented her from running away.

She hissed when she felt the freezing hands of the boy on her wound because of the cold and the pain.

«Hey! Watch yer hands, will ya!?» She growled, pulling her arm back to check on it.

The winter spirit paused in thought, not quite sure if he was allowed to talk about that time when the children stopped believing in Bunnymund, causing him to shrink in size. In simpler words, that time when Ester’s father became a fluffy, cute little bunny.

Jack chuckled at the thought.

“Let’s just say he wouldn’t be where he is right now,” he began, trying to sound as humble as he could. “Without yours truly.” He grinned, still working on Ester’s wound when she pulled back, causing him to jerk away.

He grunted. “I was just trying to help,” he explained, keeping his hands in his pockets now. He looked at her wound, and while it still looked pretty bad, at least the bleeding had stopped. The ice had covered the open wound.

“See, it’s not bleeding anymore,” he said, almost proud of the achievement. “Now let’s get you back to your dad.” He held a hand out to help her up.

❀ - Ester gritted her teeth before letting the best of her swearing dictionary out of her lips.

That was probably one of the worst thing she could’ve learned from her father; when upset, he wouldn’t mind to care about his pottymouth.

Then, she sighed, nodding:

«Yeah, I’ll calm the fuck down. But…» She looked around, lowering her voice: «He’ll skin us alive, y’know. I ain’t supposed ta be here with ya, if he finds out Ah’ got outta the Warren…» She repeated, pricking up her ears to catch any danger.

She feared her dad; he has never been aggressive - apart from some spanking when it came to very bad troubles - but he was terrifying when angry.

Jack shook his head. He knew Bunnymund to be a lot of things, but he was never that violent. He and Jack exchanged some banters - well, banters with an awful lot of swearing, that is - and maybe some punches as well, but Bunnymund never really hurt Jack with the intention of scarring him for life. They were actually friends.

“He wouldn’t,” he said, clearing his throat. “He owes me.”

He rubbed his hands together, preparing to freeze Ester’s wound. He then hovered his palms over the wound, applying ice on it to stop the bleeding, or at least put it to a pause.

“And if he does get mad and all aggressive, I won’t let him lay a hand on us. Promise.”

Ester looked up with a sarcastic expression despite the pain once the white haired eternal teenager asked her what happened:

«Ah’ dunno, what does it seem ta ya?» She asked, shaking her head: «Yeah, a starting point… YER NOT HELPIN’!»

She huffed once the Winter spirit suggested her to tell her father she tripped:

«Ah’ can’t, Jack! He’s gonna groom mah wound, he’s gonna know… ya know we have an extremely high sense of smell and taste.» She paused, trying to lick her wound before hissing in pain: «Ah… crikey, Ah’m such a dumbass… this ain’t good at all. He’s gonna know Ah’ was with ya!» She pointed at her friend: «We’re both gonna be in serious troubles, Ah’ tell ya!»

She tried to stand up; her legs were shaking and, damn, her arm did hurt.

«What are we gonna do!? WHAT THE BLOODY HELL ARE WE GONNA DO!?»

“Okay, I’m sorry!” he said with a shrug as he helped her get up. Her wound did look quite severe and he himself wouldn’t know what to do. He scratched his head and faced her.

“Obviously, I wouldn’t know how to treat a wound like that. I’m not a nurse, not yours at least, and even if I were, I wouldn’t like getting shouted at. So you’ll have to calm the fuck down,” he said sternly, squeezing her good arm.

He was about to continue but gritted his teeth instead, to stop himself. He might have been a tad too harsh. Taking a breath, he himself tried to calm down.

“Sorry,” he said, a little gentler. “But yeah, I really don’t know what to do with that. I can freeze it to stop the bleeding, but for the treatment…”

He sighed. “I’m afraid we’ll have to go to your pops, Ester.”

That was too easy.

She used to run with her daddy so many times that she was used to run so fast.
And she couldn’t get even faster.

Once hearing Jack’s voice from behind her, Ester turned her head towards the white haired boy:

«Oh, yeah, Ah’ can do so much better! But it’s no fun if you don’t even try ta ova’take me!»

The young hare laughed, seeing how hard it was for the Winter spirit to overtake her.
But then, she saw him fly higher, and once understanding why, it was too late to halt.
She slammed against the thick tree branch in the way, falling down with a dull thud.

«OW-!» She yelled, once being able to sit up: «DON’T JUST LAUGH AT ME, YA BLOODY TOSSER!» She screamed, hissing in pain.
She held her arm, trying to keep it still while she was checking what was wrong: a deep, bleeding graze was on her elbow, and it hurt so bad.

«BRILLIANT!» She said, thumping her foot on the ground: «How am Ah’ gonna explain this da the ol’ man!? BLOODY HOW!?» She said, trying to bend her arm before letting out another hiss: «Crikey, he’s gonna find out. He’s so gonna skin me…»

Man, it sure turned quiet, Jack thought when he reached a certain point in the woods. He looked behind him to check if Ester was hiding somewhere, trying to play a trick on him, but something didn’t seem quite right.

Finally, he stopped to check. Ester wasn’t anywhere nearby, at least it didn’t feel like it, and it left him confused. He certainly didn’t see the hare pass by him; she may be quick but not too quick that the winter spirit wouldn’t be able to sense it.

Slowly, he turned back and eventually hurried, worried that something had happened to her. When he caught sight of her sitting on the ground, a reddish tint on her arm, his heart dropped. Good, she’s alive, he thought. But she seems hurt…

Landing next to her, he saw her injury and began to cringe, as if experiencing second-hand pain by merely looking. “The heck happened to you?” he asked, the memory of the tree branch obviously not having returned to him. He squatted down next to her and checked on her arm.

He chuckled when she mentioned being skinned. “Well, at least he already has a starting point,” he kid, staring at the wound, but then prevented himself from laughing at his own bad joke. “Can’t you just say you tripped or something?”

Ester laughed, letting him take the lead.

If there was anything that she could learn in all of these years living with the old rabbit was how to be a fast runner.
Moreover, she was a hare: she was endowed with larger feet and longer and stronger hind legs than her father. Therefore, she was able to run as fast as the wind.
Maybe even faster.

«If ya can’t race da ol’ man, how d’ya think ya can race me?» She said, preparing to run.
She dashed through the wind, shortening the distance between her and Jack in a matter of seconds:

«Told ya, Frostbite! See ya around!» She laughed, teasing the Winter spirit before speeding up.

Jack rolled his eyes as he watched Ester run past him. He knew she was a faster runner - she was a hare, after all. But of course, he would never give up that easily.

He tried to pick up speed and rode through the wind, until he was able to catch up with her, but not quite getting ahead. “Not bad, Ester,” he got out from behind her. “But you can do better than that."

A thick tree branch stood in the way a few feet in front of them, but because Jack was light as a snowflake, he was able to dodge it with ease, getting faster as he began to take the lead. He let out a laugh as he went farther and farther away from Ester, but never left his guard off.
