“She- Tinker Bell- convinced the Lost Boys to try and shoot the Wendy-bird out of the sky.” Wendy recalled the memory. “Wendy-bird being me. Of course I forgave her later. You see fairies are so small that they can only process one emotion at a time. Hers was jealousy over Peter befriending me.” She studied the boy in front of her, “Very curious… is that a staff?”

“That is… unfortunate,” Jack noted, not quite sure which word to use. Being capable of flight, he had never really experienced uncontrolled falling. But he sympathized nonetheless. “Jealousy, huh? Mine was, well, unreturned emotions,” he said, clearing his throat nervously as he remembered having a fairy obsess over him. “But yeah, it’s a staff. It helps me fly.”

“Yes, pixie dust. As in the dust one uses to fly. It’s hard to come by, unless you happen to know a fairy.” Wendy explained. She nodded in agreement, “Believe me, I know. The last fairy I met tried to… well, she tried to do a horrible thing.”

“I see,” Jack said, crossing his arms. He only had one fairy friend, and it was his co-worker Tooth. And she didn’t have any dust on her. Perhaps she was a different kind of fairy? “Horrible thing?” He chuckled. “What’d she do?”

“Why yes, yes it did.” Wendy thought back to the moment the wind had hit her hair as she soared over London and into the night. “It was… the best thing I had ever done.” She stopped a moment, “You don’t happen to have any pixie dust on you, do you?”

His eyebrows furrowed. “Pixie dust?” he asked, tilting his head. He hadn’t heard the term before, but he figured it had something to do with flight. “But I have met pixies before. They are difficult, I tell ya.” He chuckled, remembering his experience with a group of pixies in the past.

“Guardians? Do you.. guard things?” Wendy pondered the name. She thought it fit him better than fairy, for sure. “Something like fairies, huh? Can you fly? I once flew. It was the most exciting thing.”

“We guard children,” the spirit cleared up, a small smile on his face. He had been a Guardian for a while now, but it still felt like yesterday. “I can, actually. You did? Feels like you can do anything, huh?”

She nodded smiling. It was true, her name was quite long for a girl who was quite small. At the mention of believing, Wendy’s eyes instantly lit up, “Oh, I am. I am a believer. I believe in fairies and magic. Are you a fairy?”

“Oh. Good, then!” Jack thought it was nice that the girl had a strong sense of belief. These days, believers had become more than uncommon. But the thought of Jack being a fairy made him cringe. “Something like that,” he said with a nod. “They call us Guardians, actually.”

“Wendy Moira Angela Darling.” She curtsied like she was taught to. “I’m very sorry to hear about your situation, Jack. It sounds like a terribly lonely life. How come I can see you?”

“Whoa, that’s a mouthful,” he blurted out, before stopping himself. “I- It’s a good mouthful though, I like it. And no, it’s fine, I’m not that lonely, anyway.” Upon her question, he found himself wondering, not really knowing the answer himself. “Um, well, maybe it’s because you’re a believer.”

“Well, that’s never any fun. You just need some good company. Everyone should have people to have fun with.” Wendy was taken aback by his question. “Yes. I believe so. Why? Am I not supposed to? Should I cover my eyes?”

“No, no,” Jack laughed a bit, shaking his head. “That’s not what I meant. It’s just that people don’t usually see me, that’s all. I guess that’s why I don’t really have much company.” He shrugged, letting his shoulders down. “I’m Jack, by the way.”

“Oh, and why’s that?”

Jack almost jumped in surprise. “Uh, lack of people to have fun with, I guess?” He shrugged, and tilted his head at the girl. “Wait, you see me?”
