Rapunzel smiled at him, keeping her hands in her lap. France was one that Rapunzel had read about often. It seemed that a lot of fairy tales happened in France or Germany And they both sounded like lovely places to visit. At the mention of them both visiting the countries, Rapunzel’s eyes lit up once again and she gasped excitedly, “really?” She didn’t want to think of the unlikely possibility that her mother would allow her to go. Circumstances could change and she could already tell that meeting Jack, had opened up more opportunities in her life that she would take; even if it meant betraying her mother’s trust. “That would be… amazing,” she could already begin picturing visiting the Eiffel Tower and the Notre Dame as well as visiting all the old cathedrals and other types of ancient architecture in Sweden.
She was pulled from her thoughts as Jack chuckled and glanced at him with a smirk. “Uh-huh, a total badass,” she replied. At the mention of a victim, Rapunzel glanced up at Jack before standing up. “Good luck finding one,” she mumbled, placing her hands on her hips and glancing around the forest. She couldn’t imagine there being any lost wanderers around here, but she could be wrong. It’s not like she got outside often to know anyway.
Jack rolled his eyes. “Like I need it,” he scoffed, but he actually did need some luck, as the forest seemed pretty isolated. He looked around in a slight desperation, when an idea crossed his mind. Slowly, he turned to Rapunzel, his eyes mischievously hinting that he planned on demonstrating the prank on her, and she wouldn’t have any choice. He crossed his arms, and before he could open his mouth to speak, loud and fast footsteps were to be heard a few yards from them. So Rapunzel was to be spared after all.
He pressed a finger to Rapunzel’s lips before she could say a word, and slowly turned to his right, where the footsteps seemed to be coming from. He lifted his finger from her lips and gestured for her to follow. Carefully, he made his way through some bushes and trees, checking back on Rapunzel from time to time. When they got to a clearing, he saw a man resting on the trunk a fallen tree, several inches from the ground. He seemed to be running away from something–or someone–because he was out of breath and he kept checking back to see if there was anyone behind him. Luckily, Jack was hiding behind a huge rock, and it was impossible for anyone to see him, even without invisibility.
I know. This is pathetic.
But please take the time to check this out, especially if I owe you a reply or whatever.
Rapunzel gasped quietly to herself, her mind racing. “Of course it’s important!” she exclaimed, pacing around her tower. She opened the doors to her window, peering outside. It would be a while until the stars floated up again and she couldn’t wait any longer. “The stars appear on one night a year. Only on my birthday” she said, “I’ve even charted when they appear, so I’m not making this up” she gestured to the charts she had sketched on her walls.
“So… what are you doing here then? If you’re so busy? Taking a break?” she asked curiously. Everyone needed a break at some point in time, human or not. She glanced at his staff. She hadn’t even noticed it. “What’s that for?” she pointed to it and raised her eyebrows.
“Okay, then. So when is your birthday, exactly?” Eyes fixed on the chart, Jack took small steps back, trying to get a full view. “‘Cause, you know. I can help you see them. If you’d like.” Now that he knew it was really important to her, he was willing to help her. It was the least he could do to make up for his intrusion. And the awful joke, which he still could not get over.
Jack gently shook his head. “Is and was. There’s a difference,” he made clear. In a strange way, things got less busy for Jack after he became a Guardian. Well, sure, he still had to freeze stuff and make children happy every now and then, but he was never really that busy. “Oh, this?” he held the staff closer to him. “This is practically my best friend. It helps me do this.” He gave the staff a little wave, and soon it was snowing in the room.
