Darcy nodded yes, as he asked her if she really thought so. She watched him sighed as he began to think again.
She listened to him carefully, not wanting to miss out on anything he had to tell her. Her eyes shot wide, when he told her he roam the earth for three hundred years.
He was three hundred years old….bloody heck that is a long time….but he is Jack Frost so makes sense for him to be that old…
‘Wow….three hundred years old…..your an old man~’ she teased with a smirk. She wondered how old he was when he was human….
'The man in the moon?…he made you into Jack Frost?…you can heard him but never truly met him?’ she questioned with a raised brow.
There is a man in the moon?….
'You roamed all that time, not knowing what your real purpose was and last year you were made a guardian?….what’s that?’ she asked, as she tilted her head to the side.
'Every Guardian has a center…..something you specialize in…hmmm’ she mumbled as she looked away for a moment to think it over.
What is his center…?…..I’m guessing it wouldn’t be snow or winter…..a center for a guardian has to be more special then that….right?….
Darcy looked at him as she took a wild guess of what his center was. ‘Snow balls and Fun times?….’.
Jack chuckled. “I am, yeah,” he admitted. “But I sure don’t look old, do I?” He smirked back. Immortality had always been something he found cool, no matter how lonely he got at times.
“Yes, he did,” he answered. “A Guardian is a spirit who has an extra job, which is to protect kids. Santa, Tooth Fairy, they’re all Guardians. It’s their… our job to make sure kids are still believing.”
“I used to be just a winter spirit, but thanks to Manny, I am now busy during the holidays." He didn’t want to sound like he was complaining, but he had to admit, being a Guardian was a difficult job. He liked seeing the joy in children’s eyes, though.
When Darcy told him her answer, he smiled, impressed. "Fun,” he revealed. “But you were close, don’t worry.” He was actually pretty amused, as ’snowballs and fun times’ was something he used to describe himself as. Not as an underestimation, but merely a discouragement to the other Guardians. He wasn’t exactly up and jumping when they told him he was to become one of them.
Darcy looked straight at him, into his eyes. When she felt him pat her shoulder. She gave him a soft smile. ‘Alright, Its just that one thing. But I’m sure your right, that she had a great life. Even though you did die, you were reborn into a new life, which is cool’ she replied.
‘By the way, I think your name when you were human, “Jackson” isn’t a lame name at all’ she commented with a smile.
“You think so?" Jackson, for him, wasn’t that bad, but he had grown fond of his nickname over time.
The spirit sighed, not knowing how to continue. Things were about to get weird in the story.
"Alright, so, after that. A Man in the moon, who I call Manny, came and revived me, but as a spirit. I’ve never seen him before, but I’ve heard him speak, which is pretty cool,” he said, pausing for a while to organize his thoughts. “I roamed the Earth for three hundred years, not knowing what my real purpose was, but last year, I was chosen to become a Guardian.”
“Every Guardian has a center, this sort of thing they specialize in. And guess what my center is.” He raised an eyebrow. Could she guess what it was?
Darcy’s eyes widen and her face soften as she learned, that he was a human like her before he became Jack Frost. And the fact he gave his life to save his own sibling. ‘So you were a human like me….before you became Jack Frost?….you fell into a frozen lake and died….’ she said softly, she felt bad for him that he died but he didn’t seem to be to bothered by it.
She wondered if he ever thought about his sister, or he was were to watch her grow up even if he did die and became Jack Frost.
“Yup,” he said with a small nod. “But I wouldn’t be upset. I mean, I was at first, but I got over it. Besides, I’m sure Emma had a great life. And I like being how I am now." He didn’t like being pitied. It was one of the main reasons why he never told people his back story. However, since the girl asked so nicely, he was obliged to.
He gave her a pat on the shoulder. "Don’t feel bad, Darcy. I’ll continue my story, but on one condition - you will not feel bad or sorry for me.
‘yes I do! I wanna hear all about you!’ she replied happily, watching him with her big brown eyes. With such a curious look on her face. She wanted to know all his story about himself, everything…
The spirit chuckled, amused by how much she wanted to know more about him. He decided that he would focus on the good things rather than the sad ones.
“Okay, then. Before I became me, I was a… well, I was a boy. I was born here, in Burgess. My name was Jackson, I think. Pretty lame name, if you ask me,” he said with a snicker.
“I had a sister called Emma. One day, we were out skating, then the ice began to crack. I saved her from falling in. But the ice cracked and I fell down that lake,” he said, pointing at the body of water near them. “And that’s how I died,” he concluded, but he tried not to sound gloomy and sad. He was over it, after all.
Jack waited for a reaction before he went on with his story.
Jack’s voice broke her out of her thoughts, she looked over to him and smiled faintly. ‘I’m fine’ she replied as she made her way over to him, and sat herself down beside him.
‘I was just wondering if you would tell me more about yourself…about your past, what you have been through…stuff like that. Do you know any other spirits or beings like you?’ she questioned with a glint of wonder in her eyes. She rested her chin in her hand as she looked at him, waiting for his reply.
He turned his head to meet her curious gaze, uncertain if he should tell her the whole thing, his past and all. It might be too dramatic, or too tragic, or both. And he certainly didn’t want to upset the girl, especially after seeing the joyous expression in her eyes earlier. He just didn’t want to ruin it.
The spirit sighed. “It’s a long story, you sure you wanna hear it?” he asked, raising an eyebrow.
Darcy smiled with amusement at his reaction to this news, she couldn’t believe he never knew any of this. But then again being a spirit of winter, doubt he has his own TV or internet….
‘Well I don’t know if they portrayed you accurately….but I doubt they have…’ she commented, she didn’t want to tell him that in some of those movies….they portrayed him as a bad guy.
Poor guy…..
Darcy noticed him playing with a snowflake around his fingers. She smiled as she watched him play with it, she never thought in her life she would meet the winter spirit…..or ever see anything truly magical….
But here he was in front of her, she wondered what his life is like…what his memories were…if he know other spirits or even knew Santa Claus…
Jack was still utterly surprised. He wasn’t outdated when it comes to the media; of course, being a teenager, he was exposed to television and other forms of media. He just wasn’t aware that people were so familiar with him because of it.
A hint of disappointment settled in his eyes when he learned he wasn’t portrayed as accurately as he’d prefer, but he shrugged it off. He didn’t mind however he was portrayed. Kids and other people actually see him and know about him. He was believed in. And that was one of the best feelings he has ever had.
He let go of the snowflake and it flew off, into the wind, into nowhere. It wasn’t winter yet, and so eventually all the snow that had surrounded them earlier had already melted. Jack shrugged, and sat down on one of the rocks he had been resting on earlier.
Seeing that Darcy seemed to be in deep thought, he furrowed his brows. “You okay?” he asked in concern. “Is something bothering you?”
‘Yes, they are’ she agreed, happy to have someone else who likes dolphins like her. 'I hope so’ she replied, smiling at him.
Darcy watched as his expression, it looked as if he was thinking about something. Something that was bothering him….She hoped she hasn’t done anything to upset him, she couldn’t think of anything she has done that could have upset him.
Her face soften as he asked her his question. ‘How do I know about you?…well you’ve always been around. Your name, you have been in poems or songs…..you have even been in animation movies…of course you look a lot different to how they have drawn you in the movies….and christmas cartoons…..’ she admitted. ‘You have always been popping up somewhere in my life, but mostly around Christmas time…’.
Jack nodded in acknowledgement. He was slightly moved - he had no idea he’d been featured in songs or movies and other media. Mostly he’d been regarded as a myth and nothing more. He was glad people had finally learned to see him differently.
“Wow,” he exclaimed, still unable to process this information. “I can’t believe it, I’m famous!” he kid, the joy in his eyes present. “Though I do hope they’ve portrayed me accurately.” He smiled slightly as he played with a snowflake in his fingers.
Darcy watched the dolphin, grinning ear to ear. When it made a dolphin sound and bounced around, she laughed a little. Her eyes shining with so much joy, her face lit up.
Darcy looked over at Jack then as he spoke to her, ‘really? you think so?’ she questioned as she looked back at the dolphin for a moment before looking back at him. ‘Guess so, I’m glad to hear that. I’ve always wanted to see a dolphin up close…I hope one day I could swim with some dolphins…its a dream of mine’ she said causally.
Darcy smirked at him and said ‘So I’ve just met the real Jack Frost….that explains a few things about you..’.
“Dolphins are really cool,” Jack commented. It was his favorite animal, and while he had never had the chance to swim with one, he found it easy to get along with. In his holograms, at least. “You will, one day,” he said with a smile. “I’m sure of it.”
He nodded once. “I guess it does,” he remarked coolly. But then a question that had been bugging him since they met earlier returned to his mind. “Just wanna ask, how do you know about me?” She seemed to know so much about him before he had introduced himself and he couldn’t figure out why.
Darcy waited as she watched him do some hand movements, she saw something began to take form in his hands. Her eyes slowly widen as she saw a frost hologram take form of a dolphin.
She smiled brightly ear to ear as she watched the frost dolphin appear, and swim around them in circles. She laughed as her eyes followed the dolphin, she spun around following the dolphin so it was always in front of her. She felt such joy as she watched it, she met Jack Frost and she was watching a magical frost dolphin appear before her eyes. ‘Oh my god…this is so cool!’ she exclaimed excitedly.
Jack watched the dolphin circle them a few times as Darcy followed it excitedly. It approached her and somehow it seemed as if it were smiling at her. Then it made a dolphin sound and bounced around with approval. "Heh, thanks,“ he said sheepishly at the comment. "You know, he really seems to like you.” The snow above them seem to have stopped.
An “O” form on her lips as she finally understood what he meant. She giggled a little and smiled at him. ‘Erm I dunno, I have many favorite animals…cats? hedgehogs? dogs? dolphin….I have many favorites. Why?’ she asked, with her brow raised at him. Curious to why he was asking her this question.
“Just… watch,” he said and grinned. He then turned around and did some hand movements, trying to create something with his hands. After a while, a hologram of a dolphin appeared and swam in circles around them. The dolphin was covered in frost.
