Darcy looked at him confused then, by his question. ‘What?’ she muttered, she knew she properly looked stupid then. But she didn’t know what he meant…
Jack cringed at himself, he was such a dork sometimes. No wonder his co-workers avoided him from time to time. “Um, what I mean is, what’s your favorite animal?”
Darcy began to smile ear to ear, as excitement build up inside her. She felt butterflies fly around in her stomach. She didn’t know what to do, she was still in some kind stance of shock. She watched him make his way over to her, to see frost patterns cover the ground each step he took.
She smiled so brightly with excitement, her eyes shine full of the joy she was feeling. All she could mutter was ‘more please’.
“Of course,” Jack said willingly. He had a few more tricks up his sleeve, but he wasn’t sure which of them he should do. He could try bewitchment, and give Darcy the feeling of fun and excitement, but she already seemed excited enough. He could float in the air, but for some reason he felt like staying on the ground today.
Finally he got it. “Okay, Darcy, what’s your favorite life form?”
Darcy waited for him to prove he was indeed Jack Frost. When he spoke, she looked right at him and noticed him spinning his staff in mid air over himself. As he said his last word, she felt a snowflake fall upon nose. She looked up to see snow, snowflakes falling around them…
Her eyes widen in awe, watching the snow fall over them. She turned her gaze to Jack, as he asked her if this was enough proof. ‘Jack Frost….’ she mumbled softly, she couldn’t believe it. ‘its….seriously you?….seriously?’ she questioned softly, looking at him. Even though this was enough proof, she wished for more…..
But she knew then…..He was Jack Frost….
“Seriously,” Jack confirmed, the smirk still on his lips. He was glad the girl didn’t freak out or run away screaming - most people would. He hopped down the rock he was sitting on and approached towards the girl. Patterns of frost covered the trail behind him as he took each step. “But hey, if you want more, all you have to do is ask.”
Darcy just stared at him, was he playing a joke on her?…..he seemed serious about this but…he could be acting.. She thought he was going to say he is the winter spirit…
‘So your telling me, your Jack Frost? the winter spirit?…’ she questioned as she crossed her arms, looking at him. She wasn’t going to believe that unless he proved it…
'Prove it’ she muttered, 'prove your Jack Frost’.
“Okay then,” he said, thinking of how to prove it to her. He eyed his surroundings. It was your regular autumn afternoon, and the trees were all orange and red. The air was cool, but not cool enough. “This place could use a little…” he paused for effect, and then raised his staff, circling it a few times in the air.
“…snow.” The exact moment he said that last word, snowflakes and bits of snow began to fall from above them, but only in their area. “Is this proof enough?” Jack asked with a small smirk.
Darcy just stared at him, when he told her he wasn’t human. Was he playing a joke on her?… ‘What?…’ she mumbled in disbelief.
She blinked as he asked her if she has ever heard of Jack Frost. ‘Of course I’ve heard of Jack Frost. The winter spirit that brings snow days, brings winter to the world’ she replied. She has know about Jack Frost for many years, of course she never thought to much about the winter spirit to much. Since all the focus was always on hoilday figures such as Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. Also the others such as Sandman and Tooth Fairy and of course Cupid.
It was only recently that she began to think about the spirit….Jack Frost..
Jack nodded slowly as Darcy described him; he was actually slightly flattered that she was familiar with him. He had believers, but they were mostly just Jamie’s friends and other little kids from Burgess. When kids grow up to be teenagers, and then adults, they usually just forget about Jack Frost and go on with their lives. But this girl seemed different.
“Well, um, I don’t want to surprise you, but,” he paused and bowed his head for a while before continuing. “That winter spirit is me.” He planted the end of his staff firmly on the ground and waited for a response.
Darcy smiled softly as he thanked her. ‘Oh so it is natural then?….I’ve never heard of anyone having natural white hair…that is pretty cool’ she replied casually. She noticed he also wasn’t wearing any shoes, he feet were bare. She blinked, wondering why he wasn’t wearing any shoes..
‘Aren’t your feet cold?’ she asked with an raised brow. She noticed his pants were slightly torn at the bottom and also he was wearing a blue hoodie. 'I like your hoodie, its my favorite colour’ she commented, smiling. She then noticed his clothes has frost crawling up and down his clothing…..and he was also holding a strange looking staff…
“Yeah, I guess it is,” he said, laughing nervously. The girl was beginning to notice more and more odd things about him and he couldn’t bear not telling her the truth - that he was merely a spirit.
Finally, he made up his mind and faced. “Okay, Darcy, I’m not human,” he said in the most calm way as possible. It wasn’t something you heard everyday and it definitely wouldn’t help if he said it in a panicked tone. “Have you… ever heard of Jack Frost?” He cringed at the mention of himself. He was all but egotistical.
She blushed slightly when he noticed her staring at his hair. ‘Y-Yeah, your hairstyle is cool. Your hair has a lovely colour of white.’ she replied with a faint smile. ‘If you don’t mind me asking, but is the colour of your hair natural or did you dye it?’ she asked curious.
He raised his eyebrows at the compliment. Often he was ridiculed about his old man’s hair. “Oh, I- thanks, I guess,” he said with a shrug. He knew he wasn’t too good with compliments. When she asked her question, he wasn’t sure what to answer. His hair was originally brown, but that was when he was still human. With uncertainty in his voice, he answered, “It’s natural. I’ve had it since, uh, forever.”
‘Nice to meet you Jack, My name is Darcy’ she replied smiling. She noticed his snow white hair, she wondered if that was natural or if he dyed it…either way…it looked good on him.
“Pleasure to meet you, Darcy,” he replied with a grin. He observed that she had her eyes on his hair. He looked up - though that was a stupid move, of course he would never be able to see his own hair. “You like it?” he asked casually.
